Interestngly.... A longcase clock, also tall-case clock, grandfather clock or floor clock, is a freestanding, weight-driven, pendulum clock with the pendulum held inside the tower, or waist of the case. Clocks of this style are commonly around 1.8-2.4m (6-8 feet) tall. The case often features elaborately carved ornamentation on the hood, or bonnet, which surrounds and frames the dial, or clock face. The English clockmaker William Clement is credited with the development of this form in 1670. Most longcase clocks are striking clocks, which means they sound the time on each hour or fraction of an hour. The terms "grandfather", "grandmother", and "granddaughter" have been applied to longcase clocks. Although there is no specifically defined difference among these terms, the general perception seems to be that a clock smaller than 1.5m (5 feet) is a granddaughter; over 1.5m (5 feet) is a grandmother; and over 1.8m (6 feet) is a grandfather.

Here is a beautiful American Tall Case Clock from the early 1800 s that stands 93 tall to the top of the center finial, 18 wide and 9 1/2 deep. The clock has an 8 day time and strike brass movement that strikes the hours on a bell. The movement has recently been oiled and new weight cables installed and is in excellent running condition and is also a very good timekeeper. The clock face has a seconds hand and a calendar dial which are both in good working condition. The clock face is signed William Leslie, who worked in Trenton, New Jersey in the early 1800 s. The clock case is made of beautiful flame grained mahogany and has wonderful proportions and a nice old finish with a beautiful old mellow patina. The clock case has many high end details, superb craftsmanship and looks fantastic. The glass in the hood door is wavy and appears original. The three brass finials are correct replacements. Here is a wonder opportunity to own a great piece of American clock history. The clock is ready to proudly display in your home or office and comes complete with the 2 door keys, winding crank and, if desired, easy to follow illustrated set up instructions.
